We are pleased to share the third issue of On Our Terms with the world. On Our Terms is an online, open-access, academic undergraduate journal published under the auspices of the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College, Barnard Library & Academic Information Services, and the Center for Digital Research and Scholarship at Columbia University. Our mission is to redefine the parameters of women’s leadership and provide a platform for students to have scholarly conversations that span the globe.
The pieces we have chosen to publish this year reflect that mission with fearlessness and ambition. They are diverse and daring. We are excited to present contributions from Germany to China to South Africa, from Creative Writing to Economics to History. Our authors challenge traditional narratives about feminism, women’s liberation, and economic empowerment. They incorporate disparate viewpoints and emerge with new and individual perspectives. We are proud of how our mission has developed in this third iteration of the journal, and look forward to see where the next year takes On Our Terms.
We would like to recognize the faculty reviewers who generously gave of their time and expertise. Thank you Bonnie Anderson from Brooklyn College, Mandy Henk from DePauw University, Julia Hudson-Richards from Penn State University, Carlos Rojas from Duke University, and Theresa Ulicki from Dalhousie University.
We hope you enjoy the challenging and provocative work of these talented undergraduates.
